Welcome to my world of images. My love for photography, expressed here in images from various places around the world, will grow as I continue to travel and expand my art. Come on my journey as I explore and express through The Natural Eye.
My images are taken with either a Nikon D800E or a Nikon D610 camera. I do digital darkroom work on all images, primarily with Apple Aperture and a variety of plug-ins. My preference is to enhance what the camera sees in a “darkroom” environment–meaning I don’t do digitally what I could not do photographically.
Many people ask me if I “enhance” my images. The answer is a determined “yes.” Cameras take pictures, but artists make photographs. All of the great photographers enhanced his or her photographs from beginning to end. Choosing the appropriate film, processing with custom chemicals and techniques, and, printing with often proprietary craftmanship were some of the tools that such greats as Ansel Adams, Minor White, Margaret Bourke-White and Yousuf Karsh, to name a few of my favorites, mastered.
I find photography to be a wonderful companion to my writing and keeps me attentive to what is important in life and in spirit. My primary interests have always been in natural settings for people, places and interesting subjects. Nature beckons my eye, my heart and my spirit.
I hope you enjoy my work and perhaps you can join me on one of our wonderful tours off the beaten path.
